The Inspiration Behind Ruth Don Shevlin’s Award-Worthy Children’s Books

Ruth Don Shevlin was recently featured as a guest on Adventures of the Explorer’s Club Podcast with host Lori. In Episode 13, Ruth shares the inspiration behind her beloved children’s books, her lifelong passion for storytelling, and the experiences that shaped her journey as an author and illustrator.

A children’s book author, illustrator, artist, and lifelong storyteller, Ruth’s love of creativity began at a young age. Throughout her career, she worked as a copywriter, proofreader, and photographer for advertising agencies in Chicago. After moving to Florida and raising her daughters, she continued nurturing young minds through teaching preschool, volunteering with the Head Start Program, and working as a theater proofreader.

During the interview, Ruth discusses how her life experiences, family values, and dedication to helping children learn and grow inspired her books. She also shares insights into her creative process, character development, and the meaningful life lessons woven throughout her stories.

Ruth is the author and illustrator of two heartwarming children’s books, Rebecca’s Dream That Wasn’t and Esmeralda and the Lollipop Tree. Through engaging storytelling and memorable characters, her books encourage children to build confidence, overcome fears, practice kindness, and develop positive values that stay with them long after the final page.
